This short story is entered into 100WC (a short story competition inviting young writers to create a 100 word piece following on from the weekly prompt issued). This week’s prompt: Out of the blue…

The figure silently stepped out of the shadows, half of his face was concealed in darkness, I could tell he was dangerous. I shrunk back down to my hiding place, my heart racing. Trying to stay calm, I twisted round, making a clearing to hide. The man was gone. Suddenly, I heard the loud clunk of metal being dropped onto concrete. The noise echoed down the street. Squinting in the darkness I struggled to see anything. But what was that? A glint of metal? No, it was the barrel of a shotgun! By then it was already too late!
